LinkedIn: News
LinkedIn is a professional networking platform that’s a subsidiary of Microsoft. It claims to be the largest platform of its kind with over 774 million members from over 200 countries around the world as of 2021. The company’s roots hark back to 2002 when co-founder Reid Hoffman conceptualized the platform in his living room. Hoffman is a distinguished alumnus of Stanford University, Oxford University, and Babson College. LinkedIn was officially launched on May 5, 2003. In 2016, Microsoft acquired LinkedIn for $26.2 billion while the platform got to retain its ethos and its then-CEO Jeff Weiner. LinkedIn allows job seekers to create profiles and boost their visibility to potential recruiters. Similarly, recruiters and organizations can also list their vacancies, track applications, and view candidate profiles. Individuals can also “connect” with each other and build professional networks. LinkedIn users can also keep tabs on organizations they’re interested in by “following” the corresponding company profile on LinkedIn. In 2012, the company also acquired SlideShare for $119 million. Slideshare is a social distribution platform for presentations. 2003
